Gorgeous Geode Cakes | Paige’s Bakehouse

They say that diamonds are a girl's best friend.

Well, it might be true that gemstones and jewelry are a must-have. But what if you could translate all that glitter into something sweet and edible?

Even better.

Well, you are in luck. If you haven’t heard of a geode cake then let us be the first to introduce you…

Geode cakes are a layer cake designed to mimic the look of natural geode formations. They were originally made by Rachel Treufel from Intricate Icings, and they soon became an internet sensation. Even Beyonce loves this trend–she snagged a $3,500 dollar geode cake in black and gold to celebrate her 36th birthday. And make no mistake, a geode wedding cake is a beautiful thing, too!

And for good reason. There is something truly stunning about those geode-inspired formations peeking out from the side of the cake.  From crystal-clear quartz to deep-purple amethyst and everything in-between, you can find geode cakes in an array of stunning colors.

Here at Paige’s, we love to frost the edges of the geode with everything from a gold leaf to other edible gold touches. We find it adds a touch of glamour without breaking away from the mineral look!

But while those little geode crystals might LOOK like rocks, rest assured that your teeth will be greeted by sugary delight—not an emergency visit to the dentist. Those crystals are actual SUGAR crystals (rock candy, to be exact).

Making a geode cake is quite an endeavor, but we LOVE making them. They are one of our favorite cake designs, because they can be beautifully customized to suit the guest of honor’s favorite color.

We can even simulate birthstones, which is a great idea for a Mother’s Day or birthday celebration!
